About Us
Amaziah (Pronouned Ah-Mah-Zee-Ah)
Our Mission : To provide handcrafted fair trade products from Africa to you. To ensure that we support local African projects and Watoto babies home.
Our Goal : To diversify into crafts and to set up our own jewellery and crafts project in Africa bringing people essential incomes and trade.
Origins
Amaziah is a name meaning Unusual/Extraordinary in Swahili
and in Hebrew meaning strength of God,
The Berbers of North Africa also refer to themselves as Amaziah meaning free and noble men.
Our Jewellery
Amaziah jewellery was started when Leila went to Uganda on a volunteer trip, bringing back the jewellery that had been bought at a fair price to sell here and raise some money for the Watoto babies home. Amaziah then diversified and started to also use ethical wholesalers who were funding their own African community projects. We hope to one day start our own womens project in Africa bringing them a regular income.
Amaziah now buys it's jewellery from various African countries (jewellery is labelled with its origin in the shop). The Jewellery we buy is all handcrafted and a fair price is paid to the workers. For some people, their craft is the only family income meaning every sale is precious so please support the cause. We also supply jewellery that supports many other causes and we will be bringing you information on these causes shortly
You will also notice that we sell some Jewellery and make up that isnt sourced from Africa. These will be labelled, and profits from these items will still be donated to Watoto.
Donations
We have pledged to donate 10% of ALL profits to Watoto Bulrushes babies home. Watoto is a children's charity in Uganda run by KPC (Kampala Pentecostal Church) in Uganda and its partner church Hillsong London. It has built 3 villages throughout Uganda so far, that care for orphans. Children taken in that are too young to go into one of the Watoto villages, are cared for in Watoto Bulrushes babies home in Kampala. To see pictures of the Watoto babies from our visit to Uganda please click here.
To find out more about Watoto's projects or to donate directly please visit the official website here.
Our donations will start from the first sale as we have built the website ourselves, meaning our start up costs have been personally paid and accounted for. This means that every sale from the opening of this website will generate profit. We will send the money to Watoto quarterly and will keep you informed of how much money has been raised, you can check on this any time by visiting out "Donations" section. You can also donate via this website to the Watoto Bulrushes fund. Watoto have promised to send us reports on how your donations have been spent.
