Alongside donating 10% of all our profits to the Watoto Bulrushes babies home and paying a fair wage to all craftspeople, we also support other community projects and buy from importers who have set up their own projects.
These are as follows:
Congo Orphanage In October 2007, our supplier made a beginning donation of $1,000. to help buy basic necessities for one orphanage in Congo. Shortly after this they began supporting a second orphanage in Congo. During the rest of 2007, they sent a total of $8,000. to these two orphanages. In 2008, they added a third orphanage. During 2008 they donated a total of $23,500. to these orphanages. In 2009 they have been sending $4,000. per month to these orphanages. This money has paid for some improvements to the facilities for these two orphanages; and pays for the food and some other expenses on a regular basis.

Dakar Academy
Academy is an operation that houses about 100 boys and teenage
who were living on the streets in Senegal. This is a safe haven for some of an estimated 100,000 child beggars in Senegal. The academy gives children food, drink, deworming medicine, medical care, hygiene care, vaccinations, and encouragement in academics.
Our suppliers are paying the full expenses for 2 months of this operation so far, and will continue supporting this amazing project.
Reforming Prostitutes
For many women in Africa, there are very few options for supporting themselves or their children. Many of these young women end up in destructive lifestyles that are very difficult to get away from. In March of 2008, our suppliers donated $2,500. to help expand a business training and development project for some of these women. Part of this money is loaned to women to trade with and to start very small legitimate businesses.
As of the end of February 2009, our supplier has donated a total of $41,500. to charitable causes in Africa. They hope to donate at least $50,000. during 2009.
